Education: PhD fellowships at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen

The Drug Research Academy at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is pleased to announce that three PhD fellowships will be available from 1 October 2008 to encourage young science graduates to embark on a career in drug research. The purpose of the Drug Research Academy is to train the next generation of drug researchers. Emphasis is on integrated research training to enable researchers to conduct innovative drug research in an interdisciplinary and highly integrated environment. The PhD study program includes obligatory PhD courses with focus on key elements in drug research. The industrial perspective is considered essential and at least three months of research must be carried out in an industrial environment. Applications are invited for the three-year fellowships from candidates that hold or expect to hold a masterÂ´s degree in a field relevant to the following projects:

1. Physiological studies of the calcium sensing receptor using gene knock-down techniques and pharmacological intervention. Supervisors: Professor Hans BrÃ¤uner-Osborne, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Group Leader Markus Latta, LEO Pharma.

2. Assessment of side-effects from opioid analgesics. Supervisors: Associate Professor Lona L. Christrup, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medical Director Dorthe Tvinnemose, norpharma.

3. Development of activated spherical particles as a scaffold for tissue regeneration. Supervisors: Associate Professor Hanne MÃ¸rck Nielsen, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of Biomat Department Hanne Everland, Coloplast A/S.

The projects are co-financed by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the companies involved. Project three is also co-financed by the Advanced Technology Foundation.

The PhD fellowships are to be completed in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the PhD education from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Regulations and Guidelines for the Awarding of the PhD Degree by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The terms of employment are stated in the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance.
