Marshall Scholarship

Candidates are evaluated on academic achievement, leadership potential, social commitment, and communication skills. In appointing scholars, the selectors will look for distinction of intellect and character as evidenced both by their scholastic attainments and by their other activities and achievements. Preference will be given to candidates who display a potential to make a significant contribution to their own society. Selectors will also look for strong motivation and seriousness of purpose, including the presentation of a specific and realistic academic program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a 2009 Marshall Scholarship, candidates must:

  • be citizens of the United States of America (at the time they apply for a scholarship);
  • (by the time they take up their scholarship ie September 2009) hold their first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States;
  • have obtained a grade point average of not less than 3.7 (or A-) on their undergraduate degree. (Exceptions will be considered only on the specific recommendation of the sponsoring college.
  • have graduated from their first undergraduate college or university after April 2006.
  • not have studied for, or hold a degree or degree-equivalent qualification from a British University.

Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer PhD, Belgium

Company: FMTC, Belgium.
Department: High-Productivity Machines Department
Reporting to/hierarchy: Team Leader High-Productivity Machines Department

Function details: This person will work in the High-Productivity Machines department and will analyze electrical drive motor combinations for varying load profiles of customer machines to optimize the energy efficiency. He/she will define and develop methodologies and (software) tools to offer to the FMTC member companies to help them define optimal drive motor configurations for different machines and applications.

He/she will help organize and liaise the different aspects of the projects both externally and internally and will work in close collaboration with experts from FMTC’s industrial partners and have regular contacts with mechatronics experts from knowledge centres in Belgium and abroad.

Education and qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent by experience in Power Electronics and Control or Electro-Mechanical Engineering with a broad technical background
  • In depth knowledge of electrical drive systems and their controls
  • Broad interest and broadly skilled in the domain of electro-mechanics and mechatronics
  • Ideally you have already worked on similar projects. Publications on previous research results are a plus
  • Familiar with MS Office programs

Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Programme for Postgraduate Student at University of Auckland


The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Programme (JSP) was established in April 1988 with funding from the Government of Japan. It is intended to provide an opportunity to fully qualified citizens of ADB developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related areas to attend academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 20 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the region.

University of Auckland is one of institutions participating in this ADB-JSP scholarship program.

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
The ADB-JSP provides full scholarships for one to two years.
  • full tuition fees
  • a monthly subsistence and housing allowance
  • an allowance for books and instructional materials
  • medical insurance
  • travel expenses
The scholarship is for one year with an extension to the second year of study, as appropriate, which shall be conditional on the scholar maintaining a satisfactory level of performance as determined by the institute. The maximum duration of scholarship award is two years for masters and doctorate programs.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  1. A national of an ADB borrowing member country (applicants from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not eligible for the ADB-JSP Scholarship).
  2. Gained admission to an approved post graduate course in any of the participating academic institutions. (University of Auckland )
  3. A bachelor`s degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.
  4. At least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience
  5. Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.
  6. Not more than 35 years old at the time of application.
  7. In good health.
  8. Should agree to return to his/her home county after completion of studies under the Program.
  9. Staff of participating academic institutions are not eligible for the Scholarship.
  10. Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarship.
  11. Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of the other international organizations are not eligible for the Scholarship.
  12. Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for the Scholarship.
Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

* The Endorsement Form must be filled in by an officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or other Government Authority that is approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Monash Graduate Scholarship - MGS

Monash Graduate Scholarship - MGS

The Monash Graduate Scholarship is available to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and international students. Award holders receive an annual stipend paid fortnightly and may also be eligible for allowances, such as an establishment allowance, a relocation allowance and thesis allowance. Approximately 100 awards are offered annually.

To be eligible for an MGS, applicants must:

  • hold a bachelors degree with first class honours, or a qualification deemed equivalent, from an Australian or overseas tertiary institution
  • be undertaking a research masters, PhD or professional doctorate, and
  • intend to be enrolled as a full-time student upon commencement of the award or, in exceptional circumstances, be granted approval for a part-time award.

Applicants are ineligible for an MGS if they:

  • have already completed a research masters degree or equivalent, unless:
    • intending to undertake a PhD or research professional doctorate, or
    • there is a significant change in research direction.
  • hold a PhD or professional doctorate or equivalent, unless there is a significant change in research direction
  • have previously held an MGS for more than six months, unless in the case of a PhD or professional doctorate candidate the prior award was for a research masters degree
  • are currently receiving another equivalent award, scholarship or salary to undertake the research higher degree, providing a benefit greater than 75% of the MGS stipend rate, or
  • are enrolled or are intending to enrol as a research candidate under Monash's external mode regulations.
